What's new from Claros

12th June 2003 Claros commissioned by Polden Puckham Charitable Foundation to develop an engagement strategy appropriate for small institutions. A number of options have been identified, ranging from working with large fund managers to working with NGO and programme related engagement. 13th May 2003 Claros release the report "Sleeping Tiger, Hidden Liabilities: Amidst Growing Risk and Industry Movement, ExxonMobil Stays Still." The report finds that ExxonMobil is now alone among the four "supermajor" oil companies in refusing to take meaningful action to mitigate the growing risks posed by global warming. The report, which builds on a 2002 report, notes that a host of global warming events and trends converging over the last year have "significantly increased" the climate-related risks to ExxonMobil, and that the risk management failure demonstrated by the company's approach to climate change is a indicative of a major governance failure.

7th May 2003 Claros releases a new report: "Building Tomorrow's Crisis? - The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and BP, a financial analysis", by Mark Mansley. The report found the pipeline at best marginally financially viable. But with considerable political risks involved, it could become a real headache for BP, and for banks involved in the project.

28th April 2003 Claros holds a seminar on investors and resource related conflict, in support of a project for the International Peace Academy to produce a chapter for their forthcoming book on resource-based conflict. The report will look at how investors can work to influence the impact of corporations in creating, sustaining and resolving resource based conflicts. 10th March 2003 Claros releases the report: "Open Disclosure - Sustainability and the Listing Regime." The report examines the disclosure of information by listed companies formally required by the Listing Rules, in the light of increasing interest in socially responsible investment. The report concluded that it is now time to revise the Listing Rules to incorporate social and environmental disclosure.
